Electric scooter without license in india

Must have a driving license to ensure that the person who owns it is eligible to drive a motor vehicle.

In addition, no one has the right to drive on public roads. This protects the road from careless and inadequate drivers.

Electric vehicles, especially two-wheelers, are considered safer than motor vehicles.

There are two types of electric scooters. High-powered and low-powered.

Low-speed models that are driven by a 250-watt electric motor, and speeds up to 25 km per hour cannot come in the type of motor vehicle.

Such electric scooters are exempt from registration and do not even require a driving license.

Therefore, vehicles with a speed of less than 25 km per hour and/or up-to 250W are not required to have a driving license.

Such low-speed electric scooters can be easily driven by teenagers, students, the elderly, etc.

Moreover, insurance on such electric vehicles is also optional. In addition, all other vehicles require a driver’s license.

Also, it is not mandatory to wear a helmet while driving such vehicles but we would definitely advise you to wear one for your own safety.

16 to 18 year old can Drive Electric Scooters

As part of India’s goal of becoming a fully electric country by 2030, 16-18-year-olds can drive e-scooters.

Aimed at boosting electric mobility between first-time motorcyclists and automotives.

An initiative has been taken to allow 16-year-olds to drive e-scooters after the introduction of green license plates for electric motor vehicles.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended the Union Motor Vehicle Rules 1989.

The ‘category L1’ motorcycle has been modified to make it easier for 16 to 18-year-olds to ride e-scooters.

Under the current law, youths between the ages of 16 and 18 are allowed to ride two-wheelers with 50 cc engines.

The minimum age to apply for a private motor vehicle driving license is 18 years.

As per the Central Motor Vehicle Eighteenth Amendment Rules, 2018 notified in the Gazette on 20th December,

between the ages of 16 to 18 years can get the license for an electric scooter at a maximum speed limit of 70 km/hour.

Government proposes no Road tax for Electric Vehicles

Each state has imposed Road Tax. Each state has its own method of collecting road construction costs and road tax.

In February 2020, the government proposed a Road Tax rebate for new electric vehicles. They said EV owners, can save a lot of money.
