The XEV 9S from Mahindra & Mahindra is a 7-seater all-electric SUV, which is based on the INGLO platform. It is available in multiple variants with the ex-showroom price ranging from ₹19.95 lakh to ₹29.45 lakh. Its rivals are Tata Harrier EV and Kia Carens Clavis EV. 

It is available with a seating layout of two-three-two, whose dimensions in terms of length, width, height, and wheelbase are 4737 mm, 1900 mm, 1747 mm and 2762 mm, respectively. The ground clearance is 201 mm, the frunk is 150 litres and the boot space is 527 litres when the third row is down. 

Motor, Battery Packs, Performance & Charging 

The Mahindra XEV 9S comes with a PMSM which is mounted with the front axle, featuring a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. It is offered in three different packs, which are 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. Specification are:

  • 59 kWh: It generates the power of 228 bhp and torque of 380 Nm, whose ARAI-certified range is 521 km. The acceleration timing is 8 seconds, and top speed is limited to 200 km/h.

  • 70 kWh: The power output is 214 bhp and peak torque is 380 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 km in 7.6 seconds and goes up to 200 km/h.

  • 79 kWh: Its power output and peak are 282 bhp and 380 Nm, respectively. The 0-100 km/h acceleration timing is 7 seconds, and it reaches the top speed of 200 km/h.

The standard, mid-range and larger battery packs support DC chargers up to 140 kW, 160 kW and 180 kW, respectively, which takes 20 minutes for 0-80% charging. 

It also comes with a standard 11.2 kW AC portable charger for home charging, which takes 6 hours for a 59 kWh, 7 hours for a 70 kWh and 8 hours for a 79 kWh battery pack.

Front, Side & Rear Design 

The Mahindra XEV 9S has a bold, aerodynamic and futuristic design. Its wide body, tall stance and SUV proportions give it a strong road presence.

  • Up front, it features a closed-off grill that improves efficiency, a full-width LED DRL light bar which gives a premium look, split LED headlamps (main headlights placed lower and daylight running lights upper) that enhance visibility, and a bold bumper which adds muscular presence. 

  • On the sides, it has a long body and long wheelbase, giving proper seven-seater SUV proportions; flush-type door handles featuring a premium feel; clean shoulder lines giving a sleek EV look; and large alloy wheels adding strong road presence.

  • On the sides, it gets connected LED tail lamps which give it a distinct night signature; a clean tailgate adds premium appeal; an integrated roof spoiler adds a sporty touch; and a wide stance makes it look planted and stable on the road.

Infotainment, Technology, Comfort & Safety Features 

The Mahindra XEV 9S is equipped with three 12.3-inch digital touchscreens. The first one is a digital instrument cluster that shows all the driving data, including navigation; the second is a central infotainment system which has wireless connectivity and controls all inside the cabin; and the third is a front-seating passenger for entertainment and control.

The infotainment supports Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, connected car tech with OTA updates, and an application ecosystem. Multiple USB Type-C fast charging ports are available for phone charging, and the 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system gives a theatre-like audio experience inside the cabin. Other notable features are a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and a wireless charging pad.

Front seats are ventilated and powered for comfort, and second-row seats come with sliding and reclining functions. Separate AC vents are available for three rows and triple-zone climate control. It gets 7 airbags for the safety of occupants, and for smooth driving Level 2+ ADAS is available, which features adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and forward collision warning.
